The Deputy Mayor of the City of Poway, Betty Rexford,
issued a proclamation formally recognizing “Please
& Thank You Day” at Abraxas High School on Friday,
August 22 at 11:00 a.m. This event was co-sponsored by
Abraxas
High School and the Coyote Youth Project. Coyote Youth,
in partnership with the Poway Unified School District,
developed
the “Please & Thank You” program to incorporate
respectful behavior into the curriculum and all elements
of campus life.
Based on the premise that these simple yet powerful words
would encourage a positive campus environment, T-shirts
with the words “Please” and “Thank You”
are worn every Friday. Students and staff are reminded that
these two words can alter the relationship between individuals
by sharing mutual respect of thoughts, feelings, and actions.
Dan Lopez, Abraxas High School Principal, said, "The
'Please & Thank You' campaign has made a significant
difference in the climate of Abraxas High School. The T-shirts
provide a visual reminder to be considerate and respectful.
Much of the credit for this positive interaction can be
directly attributed to the connections Coyote Youth has
made with the Abraxas community." At Abraxas High School,
learning occurs throughout the community and respect is
a value that is shared with everyone.
