Abraxas Student receives Award from Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary

Parents acknowledge the role played by Coyote Youth

Jan and Colin Cowan
August 14, 2003

Dear Members of the Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary:

We both would like to thank you for honoring our son Justin yesterday with the student of the year award. Justin has just completed three years at Abraxas High School and has gained his high school diploma and an opportunity to complete further education. For this we appreciate, in no small part, your sponsorship of his school and in particular the Coyote Youth program.

Coyote Youth has helped him by creating interests in new and different subjects, which in turn gave him the confidence, and self-esteem needed to turn around his education. Tom and Susan of Coyote Youth have an infectious personality and a knack of motivating students to excel and uncover hidden talents especially with the new Coyote Youth English program. In order to see some of the results of that program, we recommend that you read some of the essays their students have written about the program on their web site (www.backyardtourist.com then search Abraxas High School).

It really takes innovation to reconnect students, who have been left by the wayside, to learning. Doing this outside of a regular classroom, students are able to express themselves in ways that have not been appreciated in the confines of normal curriculum. This is what is so special about this program, and the reason Coyote Youth has become so popular and successful at Abraxas High School.

We will always remain grateful for your forethought and generosity.

Sincerely,

Colin and Jan Cowan
