The Coyote Youth Program
Backyard Tourist
worked from 2001 - 2006 under a grant from
the Poway Unified School District to
provide programs
for
youth attending Abraxas
HIgh School.
We provided on-campus alternative curriculum
programs and various After School Activities.
We used outdoor education
activities and field trips, with all corresponding
curriculum correlated to school standards
to not only increase self esteem and confidence, teach awareness of our planet but
also to increase school grades and interest in
literacy. As
an
on-campus program, we offered consistency to the
students with greater results than a one-time
program. Here are a few thoughts from the kids about the program.
The funding ended in June, 2006 and the PUSD program has been discontinued. However, if your School District is looking for alternative programs that link literacy across the curriculum, please contact us for more information.
Susan and Tom are also available
as consultants and/or motivational speakers. C.O.Y.O.T.E. "Coaching
Our Youth On To Excellence." The programs are
designed to motivate students to develop a passion for
learning and literacy.
If the earth were only a few feet in diameter floating
a few feet above a field somewhere, people would
come from everywhere to marvel at it. People would
walk around it marveling at its big pools of water,
its little pools and the water flowing between.
People would marvel at the bumps on it and the
holes in it... Read the entire poem:
